Heather,

It [assessment summary] is a very comprehensive overview of my management style, strengths, and career.

The entire process has been a learning process for me and was very insightful.

Thank you

I made a verbal offer yesterday to our top candidate and she accepted and plans to begin on Monday.  That alone is quite a feat.  It has been a pleasure to work with you.  I have seen some difference in the hiring manager/person you've been coaching as a result of your work.

Sincerely,  Wendy (Director of Human Resources)

"The Minneapolis Police Department has had an exceptional working relationship with DRI Consulting.  We contract with DRI for applicant psychological testing and fitness for duty examinations for existing employees.  In these litigious times, DRI has been successful due to their progressive approaches with participant-involved testing and assessment feedback.  Their approach serves those being examined as well as the department.

(1/2008)  Thanks for all your help.  Because of you I am a better and happier person now.  I can better understand myself now I think.”

(5/06) To the Katrina Relief Team, Dr. John Fennig, Chair

We are deeply appreciative of what everyone is doing to help the LA/SPCA.  Many thanks for your incredible work and contribution.

Executive Director

(4/06) Dear Dr. Fennig,

I appreciate very much your report of the advances the community has made over the past year. I've witnessed that your work with individuals in the community as well as the community as a whole, have contributed much to the growth of the group and the individuals. Thank you for extremely careful and skilled work. The Sisters noted your gentlemanly approach to them, yet with a directness and honesty which were very stretching and challenging. We are grateful to God for the experience of working with you and your co-facilitator. Thank you for helping free up the community and helping them see where there are possibilities for fuller life.

It is good to know that you might be able to do psychological assessments of women who are interested in the Congregation, especially since you have a sense of who we are and what our mission is.

(3/06)  From a USACE Leadership Development Participant - sent from Camp Taji, Iraq.  This is his second time in Iraq, the first in 2003 ending with him being hurt seriously by a roadside bomb.

"I have been meaning to write for a long while. There is not a day that passes by without me thinking of the three of you. You have impacted my life in tremendous ways. The LDP 05 training was frustrating and downright traumatic for me; in part because I really didn’t have much to apply the learning to and in part maybe because I am usually a counterweight in group such as these. I think the latter was actually a unique aspect for the composition of the class (who do you know that brags about being bad!).

Here now I am finding myself applying the very important principles of coexisting with others that I have picked up with your help. Everything I have learnt is important to me, and these are important more profoundly. I am practicing Seeking First to Understand and see Tori holding a shovel standing next to me when I do not. I am practicing “…your way or the highway” principal, and hear John in his deep voice telling me “…only if you could do a little o’ that.” And I hear Carl telling me in his warm and friendly voice “…you have got to try to learn about people.” Of course there are those moments when I actively marshal my thinking and strategizing talents, in a non-threatening way, and I am finding myself to be much more effective. This is especially helping me effectively lead upward. I champion others actively even in the areas where I am more of an expert. I have a new friend here who is also a philosopher who made a quote which I use now as part of my signature. He is a lot friendlier now than he was when we first started working with each other. I guess he knows that “I care.” Excellence here is in lack of excellence. Sometimes I hear a voice in my head, which I think is my own, telling me:  “…dare to lower your standards” And I have been doing that. I have tried using the standards of the contractors as square one and helped them to raise theirs and at their own pace.

I am well, and as you have gathered I am having a great time learning new things in business of the USACE and am enjoying my unique opportunities to be empathic, especially with the locals. I don’t know what they are showing on TV back home, but apparently the media recently has been showing bad things. My wife called and wondered if I was dead since something really bad happened in Baghdad. We do hear the sounds of battle and explosions. Our base has been twice impacted in the last two months that I have been here. Two days ago I was on a mission very similar to the one which was my last back in 03. The project is to rehabilitate an asphalt plant. We had to end our meeting prematurely because our security escort called for us to wrap it up and get in the vehicles. Then after a few minutes of conversations on the radio we were told that a roadside bomb had gone off somewhere along the path we were to take and we had been contacted for assistance in battle. Later they reported they had gained control of the “situation” and no longer needed us - a very close call to join in the excitement.

Teaching is not teaching indeed if there is no learning. There has been learning for me, and so thank you for your teaching. And thank you very much for having thought of me.

Take care of yourselves."

(10/05) From 3 USACE Leadership Development Participants
  • Was impressed by the level of expertise and organization Tori and Heather showed in conducting the seminar.   It is in keeping with my expectations of DRI as a whole after talking with John Fennig about my personal assessment stuff.   Not too much else to say here except that the Corps is getting good service for their contract dollars.   It means I feel more confident that we can accomplish something meaningful during the course of this endeavor
  • I have a lot of respect for Tori and Heather who have helped me learn and grow a lot in just the first week.

  • The last thing that I wanted to touch on was the effectiveness of the DRIC team. I thought Tori and Heather did an outstanding job of making sure that the week progressed smoothly.  They provided very relaxed and informal setting.  The handouts and other visual information were very useful and I’ll use them throughout the program and beyond. I also appreciated the one-on-one support and guidance they provide throughout the entire week

(8/05) "Thanks for facilitating our two-day meeting and hosting us at North Oaks Golf Club -- a lovely facility with great food. Some of the work we did was difficult for me, but I think it will be worthwhile in the long run.

I especially want to thank you for creating a team activity around golf that was comfortable even for mini golfers like me!

I hope to have the opportunity to work with you again."

Sincerely, D.K. 3M manager

(6/05) "You helped us get farther in this 2 day work retreat than we would have on our own in 6 months, or if ever."

Leadership Development Program  USACE– Rock Island District

Performance Evaluation of DRI Consulting for Base Year 2002

DRI Consulting Project Lead: Victoria Littlefield

Provided by Mari Fournier, USACE-MVR LDP POC and Program Administrator

A.  Quality of Product/Service:

1)    Evaluate the contractor’s performance in complying with contract requirements.

_X Excellent   _Good   _Average   _Below Average   _Unsuccessful/experienced problems

Comments:  To date, DRI Consulting has done an excellent job with complying with our contract requirements. At times, DRI Consulting knew our contract requirements better than we did.

2)    Evaluate the quality of the speakers, course material, and course content provided by the contractor.

_X Excellent  __Good  __Average  __Below Average  __Unsuccessful/experienced problems

Comments:  Our LDP participants decided the session topics, format and timing. DRIC has done an excellent job of putting together what they requested. In a mid-year program survey, our participants have expressed that DRI Consulting has provided them with informative classroom sessions and discussions. Our participants have also expressed that the individual assessments that DRI Consulting conducted were very informative, instructive and insightful.

B.  Customer Satisfaction:

1)    To what extent were the end user satisfied with the quality and timeliness of the program?

_ X Exceptionally Satisfied  __Highly satisfied  __Satisfied  __Somewhat dissatisfied  __Highly dissatisfied

Comments:  Our leadership program concludes in six weeks; however, supervisors and team leaders have already stated that they have noticed improvements with our participants. In fact, one employee has already received a promotion this month. As further proof of our satisfaction, our senior leadership plans to extend our leadership program contract with DRI Consulting [for Option Year 1].

2)     How flexible was the contractor in responding to your needs?

_X Excellent  __Good  __Average  __Below Average  __Unsuccessful/experienced problems

Comments: DRI Consulting has been very flexible and accommodating to our organizational needs and to our participants’ needs. Since this was our first year conducting a leadership program, we were not sure when we should schedules events and how much time was needed. They assisted us with their expertise.  In addition, we requested that DRI Consulting work with our eight participants busy schedule too.  DRI Consulting was also flexible and accommodating when our participants requested a book club discussion group – a program component that was not originally in the contract but became a highlight of the program for participants.

3)    How readily available was the contractor to discuss issues and how well did the contractor keep you informed?

_X Excellent  __Good  __Average  __Below Average  __Unsuccessful/experienced problems

Comments: We have had great lines of open communication with DRI Consulting. Considering that we are not co-located with DRI Consulting and all the groups that are involved in our leadership program (Commander, 10-member steering committee, 8 LDP participants and myself – the program administrator), DRI Consulting has kept us all well informed through telephone calls, e-mail, message boards on their website, and one-on-one meetings.  DRI Consulting has also been conversant with ideas, participants’ concerns/needs, etc.

4)    Given a choice, how likely are you to use additional products and services from this contractor?

_X__ Very Likely   ____Likely   ____Possibly   ____Not Likely   ____Will not use additional services

Comments: DRI Consulting has been very accommodating and has provided us with exceptional service, and we plan to work with them again with our leadership program. I have no hesitation in recommending DRI Consulting.

C.  Project Management

1)    How well did the contractor understand your requirements?

_X Excellent  __Good  __Average  __Below Average  __Unsuccessful/experienced problems

Comments: As previously mentioned, this is first year with our leadership program, and we had not much background or references to compare with (other than other agencies’ leadership program descriptions).  DRI Consulting provided us with much guidance and advice, and they helped us understand how to further develop and refine leadership skills in our LDP participants.

2)    How well did the contractor adhere to project time-lines and meet scheduled commitments?

_X Excellent  __Good  __Average  __Below Average  __Unsuccessful/experienced problems

Comments:  DRI Consulting has performed an outstanding job to meet our timelines and schedule, and they have been very flexible and accommodating to our organizational needs and to our participants’ needs as mentioned in Question B2.

John,

Again, thanks for taking the time to visit with me last week.  I have new insight and perspectives about my current work environment that is very helpful.  In fact, I invited myself to a meeting today.  It felt a little awkward at first but was very beneficial!

December 16, 1999

Hi John,

Just wanted to let you know that our interns have filled out their evaluations of our seminar series and the consultation module has met with rave reviews.  All three interns as well as Brian Buford specifically mentioned your presentation as the highlight of the semester.  Thanks again for taking the time to do that.

Dear John:

On behalf of both Executive Council and all of MPA, I wanted to once again formally thank you for volunteering your time to facilitate a strategic planning session for the MPA Executive Council yesterday.  It was evident that you had put a great deal of thought, time, and energy into preparing for the day -- which bore fruit.  You managed the process with flexibility and aplomb.   I feel it was a very valuable and productive session and met my hopes that at the end of the day we would emerge with a small number of concrete "actionables" for the association to pursue.

Once again, your service to MPA is much appreciated and will, I believe, prove in the long run to have been a significant contribution to our continued growth, success, and influence as an association.   Thanks, John.

Sincerely,

Steve
