John (and Heather!),

I wanted to let you know how excited we are that you are taking lead on this program.  We know it will be in great hands and that the SCP Community will benefit tremendously.  You are a wonderful teacher and this seems to be a perfect fit.

Thanks again John!

2010-2011 Transitioning Consultants Group

Hello from DRI Consulting!

Since 1992, DRI Consulting provides masters-level practica, and pre-and post-doc internships for consulting psychologists.  As part of these professional experiences, we offer systematic training in consulting-related topics that are highlighted in APA Division 13, Society of Consulting Psychologists Guidelines.  In addition, we have offered training in consulting psychology to external colleagues for the past 10 years.  Our training topics focus within the three major domains of consulting psychology: the individual, the group, and the organization/ system.

Part of DRI Consulting's mission is service to the discipline of consulting psychology.  In this vein, we are making our training available to a wider audience.  The purpose of this e-mail is to invite you to participate in some or all of our upcoming training sessions.

This group provides transitioning consultants a mix of very hands-on didactics and case consultation/supervision as a way to expand professional expertise.  Dr. Fennig will teach from the separate sections focused on the list of skills in the SCP Guidelines for Training: Individual-Level, Group-Level and Organizational/Systemic-Level Core Competencies.

Sessions takes place the second Monday of the month from 3:30 p.m. - 5 p.m. Central Time..

You can participate in the training by teleconference.  Each session is worth 1.5 CE's.

IMPORTANT NOTICE from the Division about an additional training opportunity!

For the past several years, the Training & Development Committee has been partnering with Dr. Harry Levinson on coordinating and facilitating a mentoring teleconference with a group of six early career consultants. Another successful round of calls has finished, thanks to the efforts of Dr. Harry Levinson, Abby Jandro, Kerry Cronan, Brynn Freeman, and the Training & Development Committee, who have all given significant time and energy to coordinating and promoting this excellent opportunity.  Despite a longstanding commitment to the group, Dr. Harry Levinson will be stepping down this year. On behalf of the former series’ participants and Division membership, I would like to thank Dr. Levinson for sharing his wisdom with so many of us.

As a continuation of the mentoring that Dr. Levinson generously provided, I'm pleased to announce that Dr. Arthur Freedman will be serving as the next mentor for the series.  As a tribute to Dr. Levinson, the group will be titled, "The Harry Levinson Discourses moderated by Arthur Freedman."  Dr. Freedman brings deep knowledge and experience in working with groups and organizations that will be valuable for early career consultants.  I will be facilitating the upcoming series and would like to invite you to participate. This year’s calls will take place on the second Thursday of the month from 7 to 8:30 pm EDT, beginning in October.  Specifically, the calls will take place October 14th, November 11th, December 9th, January 13th, February 10th, and March 10th.

I encourage early career consultants (with 1-5 years of consulting experience) to take advantage of this development opportunity.  The group is limited to six participants with current consulting cases who can commit to all calls, since these have been key success factors in past series.  The format of the calls will be based on a case study approach in which one case will be presented by a designated group member each month.  All participants are asked to submit a one-page client case summary one month prior to their scheduled presentation to ensure we have "live" cases.  If you are interested in participating or have any questions about the series, please contact me with a brief description of your consulting experience at sthornton@mail.widener.edu by Friday, September 10th at 5pm EDT.

Looking forward to another successful series, Susan
